Right Angle Speed Reducers Explained
Speed reducers can be critical components of transmission systems. Used in a wide range of industries and applications, speed reducers are often found in applications like conveyors, lifts, and elevators.
What is a speed reducer?
Speed reducers are used to, unsurprisingly, reduce the speed of mechanical energy. A speed reducer is simply a gear train between the motor and the machinery that is used to reduce the speed with which power is transmitted.
The output gear of a speed reducer rotates more slowly than the input gear. However, speed reducers don't just reduce the speed they also increase the torque, because the output gear has more teeth than the input gear.
It is not uncommon for speed reducers to use a worm gear, which uses a wheel gear and a worm to reduce the speed. Worm gears are popular options in speed reducers because they allow for the greatest speed reduction in the smallest package.
Speed reducer
Torque Transmissions offers a wide range of speed reducers, including two right angle speed reducer options. Both the HW and the LW are build with precision hobbled bronze worm gears, which offers three times the torque capacity.
Both options can also feature mounting feet that can be positioned at any one of eight locations, making both of these speed reducers a flexible option for many applications. The HW case is made of molded, glass-filled material which makes them extremely rugged and resistant to corrosive environments. While the LW features a compression molded glass-fill polyester gear box.
Choosing a Speed Reducer
The type or model of speed reducer which is right for your application will be determined by the application and project specification.
